The Glenfarclas distillery is located in Ballindalloch, in the Scottish region of Speyside. Glenfarclas, which in Gaelic means "Valley of the green grass", dates from 1936 when a local farmer, Robert Hay, acquired the license to distill, although there is evidence that illegal distillation was carried out before.
In 1856, after the death of Robert, the Grant family bought the farm and the distillery, since at that time they were a family dedicated to the raising of cattle and needed a farm halfway from their farm in Glenlivet and the market where they sold cattle near Elgin. In the purchase-sale contract, the Recherlich and Derrylane farms were purchased in addition to the distillery, for a value of 511.19 pounds.
From that moment until today, Glenfarclas has been run by the Grant family. "The Spirit of Independence", Glenfarclas' spirit of independence is the family's commitment to keeping the business owned by the Clan Grant and is one of the few Scottish distilleries totally independent and run by a single family. < / p>
