Prepared by Carpano, home of the first contemporary vermouth, Antica Formula 1L 16.5% vol., is a unique red appetizer. Made with a formula and process dating back to 1786 devised by Antonio Benedetto Carpano in Turin and with which they used to make Martinez, a cocktail that much later would become the Martini we know. An individually numbered vermouth, ideal to make Negroni and Manhattan of the highest quality or to enjoy alone.
For the preparation of the appetizer a base of white wine made from a selection of grapes from the regions of Romagna, Puglia and Sicily is used. The numerous botanicals with which Antica Formula is made are extracted by hot or cold infusion, depending on the botanical, as it has been transmitted from generation to generation for centuries. With a peaceful process, which lasts for several months, only three people involved in the production know the vermouth recipe, one of them being Niccolò Branca, president of the Branca distillery, where Antica Formula is made.
Some of the key botanists involved in the production of this vermouth are; Vanilla beans from the tropical regions of Madagascar, New Guinea and Tahiti. Saffron, one of the most expensive spices in the world. Wormwood from the Piedmont Alps and roasted sugar.
Color: Light brown with amber highlights.
Aroma: Spicy notes, vanilla, almonds, cloves and raisins.
Flavor: Round, with prominent notes of vanilla, bitter orange, cocoa beans and saffron.
