Murray McDavid Glenrothes 11 Years 1998 70cl 46% vol. is a Speyside single malt distilled in 1998 by Glenrothes, aged in American oak bourbon barrels, finished in French oak barrels from Sauternes Premier Cru of the winery Château d'Yquem and bottled in an edition of 1700 bottles by the independent bottler Murray McDavid in 2009 at the Bruichladdich distillery. The Glenrothes distillery
The Glenrothes dates back to 1878 and is situated near Rothes, in Moray, on the banks of the Spey River, in the Speyside region of Scotland. With an annual capacity of 5.6 million litres, much of the whisky produced by the distillery is used as part of the blends Cutty Sark and The Famous Grouse.
In the period between 1897 and 1923 the distillery suffered an explosion and several fires, destroying part of the facilities, warehouses and thousands of barrels, in 1898 the distillery was repaired and its production capacity expanded considerably.
Glenrothes differs from many other single malts in that since 1993 the single malts it presents do not have a certain age but are identified with a vintage. The character of Glenrothes whiskies goes through a warm and creamy mouth, with outstanding notes of red fruits, apricot, honey and cinnamon.
Established in 1996 by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin and Gordon Wright, former director of Springbank Distillery, Murray McDavid is located in the Speyside region at Coleburn Distillery. This is where whisky maturation takes place.
In December 2000 Murray McDavid bought the Bruichladdich dormant distillery and reactivated production. In 2012 the Rémy Cointreau Group buys the Bruichladdich distillery and as part of the transaction Murray McDavid is included under the intention "Our intention is to continue the legacy of Murray McDavid by staying true to its founders' vision and principles such as bottling carefully selected single malts without chill-filtering or adding colour and continuing and developing the tradition of Ace-ing casks", continue the legacy of Murray McDavid by maintaining the principles of its founders, such as bottling carefully selected single malts without cold filtration or coloring.
