Strathisla 12 Years 1L 43% vol. is a Scottish single malt from the Speyside region produced by the oldest operational distillery in the north of Scotland, founded in 1786. Strathisla whiskies can be found in the vast majority of blended Chivas whiskies. On the nose, this single malt is rich and full-bodied, with resinous and woody notes mixed with cereals. The palate is voluminous with notes of honey, raisins and oak that takes centre stage in the aftertaste.
Founded in 1786 under the name Milltown or Milton, Strathisla is the oldest active distillery in the north of Scotland, although it went through several stages of inactivity, during a fire in 1876, due to an explosion that originated in the mill in 1879 and in 1940, due to the fact that the owner Jay Pomeroy was imprisoned, which caused the bankruptcy of the distillery in 1949. The Chivas Brothers bought the distillery at auction and restored it.
The distillery is famous among whisky connoisseurs in Speyside, for being able to withstand very long maturation in sherry barrels. Strathisla is characterised by its fruity and rich whiskies, this character is accentuated in the older versions.
