Glenfarclas 25 Years 70cl 43%vol. is a Highland single malt produced by one of the last independent distilleries, run by a single family in its sixth generation, from Scotland. A classic from Speyside, a benchmark when it comes to long matured whisky in sherry in Speyside. Smooth and rich, with nuts, hazelnuts, dark chocolate, very roasted coffee beans and sherry notes.
The Glenfarclas distillery is located in Ballindalloch, in the Speyside region of Scotland. Glenfarclas, which in Gaelic means "Valley of the green grass", dates back to 1936 when a local farmer, Robert Hay, acquired the licence to distil, although there is evidence that illegal distillation was carried out from before.
In 1856, after Robert's death, the Grant family bought the farm and distillery, as at that time they were a family raising cattle and needed a farm halfway to their farm in Glenlivet and the market where they sold cattle near Elgin. In the sales contract, the Recherlich and Derrylane farms were acquired in addition to the distillery, for a value of 511.19 pounds.
From that time until today, Glenfarclas has been run by the Grant family. "The spirit of Independence", the spirit of independence that Glenfarclas speaks of is the family's commitment to keep the business owned by the Grant clan and it is one of the few Scottish distilleries totally independent and run by a single family.
Six generations later, the distillery continues to bet on the powerful character and great influence of sherry barrels, in which almost exclusively mature their whiskies, a fact highly valued among connoisseurs.
Style: Single Malt.
Breeding: Aged 25 years in European oak barrels that have contained first, second and third use sherry, the latter, used to maintain the character of the distillery in an aging of such duration.
Nose: Great complexity with outstanding notes of sherry and a touch of menthol, refreshing.
Mouth: Very balanced, clean and spicy, creamy malt and sherry, dark chocolate and gingerbread.
Final: Very long and complex finish, oak, toasted oak, cocoa and spices.
Excellent quality, and thanks to its great price, a whisky that every lover of whiskies aged in sherry must try, Glenfarclas 25 Years is a safe bet.
