Tamdhu 10 Years 70cl 40%vol. is a malt whisky from the Speyside region matured only in sherry barrels, a classic 'Sherry Bomb' from Speyside. Launched during the 'Spirit of Speyside' festival 2013, renaissance day, held by Ian Macleod of the distillery. Tamdhu 10 is a powerful, full-bodied whisky, full of sweet notes and a rich, creamy palate.
The whiskies from the Tamdhu distillery, all and enjoying a long and rich history, are of recent birth. Specifically Tamdhu was re-launched during the Spirit of Speyside festival in May 2013, featuring Tamdhu 10 Years, a Speyside aged exclusively in Jerez barrels.
The distillery is located in the town of Knockando, Banffshire, in the Scottish region of the Speyside River, Tamdhu, which translated from Gaelic means 'Little Dark Hill', dates back to 1896, when a group of whisky merchants, wine and investors linked to the world of distillates decided to start making their own malt whisky. Not too long after, the distillery is acquired by Highland Distillers, during the new direction, the distillery would go through a rather quiet period, marked by a long period of lethargy started in 1927 and finished in 1947.
Although the distillery has a production capacity of 4,000,000 litres per year, until the recent relaunch by Ian Macleod, it was difficult to find Tamdhu bottled as a single malt, as much of the production is used to produce famous blends such as The Famous Grouse, J&B and Cutty Sark.
