Rum Barbancourt 3 Star 70cl 40%vol. is the youngest rum produced by the most famous distillery in Haiti, an agricultural rum made only from sugar cane juice and not molasses, the distillate, is aged four years in Limousin oak barrels, three stars is a great rum to enjoy alone or to give a special touch to rum-based cocktails.
The Société du Rhum Barbancourt distillery is one of the oldest distilleries in Haiti, and its rum, one of the country's most famous exports, is recognized worldwide as one of the most prominent rums. The rum produced by Barbancourt is of an agricultural type, as it comes from former French colonies and only the juice of sugar cane and not molasses is used to make the distillate.
The origin of the distillery dates back to 1862, when the Frenchman Dupré Barbancourt, from the Charante region in Cognac, emigrated to Haiti and founded the distillery. Having no offspring, after Dupré's death, the nephew of his wife Nathalie Gardere, Paul, takes over the company located in Chemin des Dalles in Port au Prince until 1946, when Paul's son, Jean Gardere, second generation picks up the baton that will pass to the next generation in 1990.
During the time Jean is in charge, the distillery undergoes drastic changes, in 1949 the location of the distillery changes, relocating production to Plaine du Cul-de-sac, near Damien, where the distillery is located today.
In 1952, the distillery was already making rum from its own harvested sugar cane, together with the modernization of equipment and processes, the distillery went from the volume of own production of a small distillery to the production of a large industry.
After Jean's death in 1990, the fourth generation of the Gardere family continues to run the company, already established in more than twenty countries, through Jean's son, Thierry Gardere.
