Zacapa Centenario was created in 1976 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the city of Zacapa, east of Guatemala. The result of great work and dedication of Dr. Alejandro Burgaleta, an expert in the long ripening processes of rums.
Made with 'Honey Cane', juice extracted from the first pressed sugar cane, rums are aged by the method of soleras, traditionally used in Spain for the aging of sherry wines.
The bottle of Zacapa Gran Reserva 23 Años Rum comes with a ribbon made by hand from palm leaves, a tradition of the Mayan period. The leaves are collected and woven in Esquipulas, on the border with Honduras and El Salvador by artisans.
Zacapa Centenario has been awarded in the category of Premium rums with four consecutive gold medals in the International Rum Festival competition. It was also the first rum to enter the International Rum Festival Hall of Fame.
