Made in Guatemala, Zacapa is a handmade rum, an expression of the patience, wealth, quality and knowledge of the Roneros Masters. The rum ages in the highlands of Quetzaltenango, developing its complexity and character at 2,300 meters above sea level.
Zacapa Centenario was created in 1976 to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the founding of the city of Zacapa, east of Guatemala. Result of great work and dedication of the doctor and chemist Alejandro Burgaleta, expert in the long processes of maturation of rums.
Made with 'Honey of Caña', juice extracted from the first press of the sugar cane, the rums age by the method of soleras, traditionally used in Spain for the aging of sherry wines.
The bottle of Ron Zacapa Gran Reserva 23 Years is presented with a ribbon made by hand from palm leaves, a tradition of the Mayan period. The leaves are collected and woven in Esquipulas, on the border with Honduras and El Salvador by artisans.
Zacapa Centenario has been awarded in the Premium rum category with four consecutive gold medals in the International Rum Festival contest. He was also the first rum to enter the International Rum Festival hall of fame.
