Highland Park is the northernmost distillery in Scotland and one of the most remote, founded in 1798, presumably by Magnus Eunso.
This distillery is one of the few distilleries that malts its own barley, using Hobbister Moor peat. The peat is mixed with heather for the malting process. The malt is peat up to about 20 PPM and mixed with undisturbed malt. Bringing to whisky a subtle smoked, well below the levels of peat we offer, for example Islay.
The character of Highland Park is one of the most balanced in Scotland, according to journalist and writer Michael James Jackson, The best all-rounder of malt whiskies. The distillery stands out for the balance between notes of honey, citrus, heather and soft smoked.
Gordon & MacPhail is an independent Scotch whisky bottler and distillery located in the city of Elgin, northwest of Scotland. Founded in 1895 by James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail, it is a family business owned by the Urquhart family. Gordon & MacPhail has been bottling single malts for over 122 years and bottles more than 350 expressions from 70 different distilleries.
In 1993 the Urquhart family succeeded in fulfilling a dream that had persecuted different generations of the family, to own a distillery. In that year Gordon & MacPhail bought the distillery located in Forres, Benromach. Thanks to the family's great experience the distillery was re-equipped, restored and inaugurated in 1998.
Gordon & MacPhail has different lines that stand out for different aspects;
Connoisseurs Choice: In 1960 G&M launched a line of whiskies under the name Connoisseurs Choice, presenting a series of single malts that were not available on the market, mainly because distilleries did not bottle their whiskies as single malts. Today, Connoisseurs Choice retains the initial spirit, presenting single malts that are difficult to access.
Distillery Label: In association with each distillery they are bottled and labelled "officially" under the authorization of the distillery. Today, this relationship of trust allows Gordon & MacPhail to bottle at different ages, alcohol volume andintages with the distinctive distillery label.
Private Collection: Selection of whiskies personally chosen by the directors of G&M for their exclusivity and long aging.
Speymalt: Gordon & MacPhail bottles whiskies of different ages, alcohol volume and vintages from one of the world's most famous distilleries, Macallan.
The MacPhail's Collection: Small and exclusive range of bottles of the best whiskies; Bunnahabhain, Glen Scotia, Glenglassaugh, Glenrothes, Glenturret, Highland Park and Tamdhu.
Style: Single Malt.
Breeding: Matured eight years in ex-bourbon.
Nose: Sweet notes of malted barley, citrus peel and floral honey appear on the nose.
Mouth: Creamy body with notes of wood and pepper, with notes of seaweed and smoked.
Finish: The end is long, with spices and smoked.
Highland Park 8 Years achieves a balance between spicy, sweet and light smoked notes difficult to find in other distilleries.
