The distillery is located in Lochranza, Arran Island, in the Scottish region of the Islands. It is the only distillery in Arran and was founded in 1994 by Harold Currie, who had worked as Managing Director of Chivas (Seagrams) and House of Campbell (Pernod Ricard). The water is extracted from Loch na Davie, one of the purest in Scotland.
During the construction period of the distillery, a pair of golden eagles nested on a cliff near the distillery, being a protected species, construction stopped while the pair fed their young. The distillery was inaugurated in 1995 and today you can see them flying over the distillery.
The distillery started production on August 15, 1995. The annual capacity of the distillery is 720,000 liters, the whiskies bottled by the distillery are 10 years and a cask-strength called "100 Proof". The whiskies produced by Arran have a creamy palate, with notes of fruit, green apple and malt.
Established in 1996 by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin and Gordon Wright, former director of Springbank Distillery, Murray McDavid is located in the Speyside region at Coleburn Distillery. This is where whisky maturation takes place.
