The Aberfeldy distillery was founded in 1896 by John Dewar & Sons, Ltd. and began production in 1898. Due to the demand for barley during the First and Second World Wars the distillery remained closed to the public for several years in both periods. In 1972 the distillery was expanded with four more stills.
Aberfeldy is the only distillery in Scotland using the fresh and clean waters of Pitilie Burn. The general character of the whiskies produced in this distillery are medium-bodied and smooth, with fruity notes accompanied by malted notes, toast, toffee, honey and nuts.
