The Dalmore 18 Years 70cl 40%vol. is a Scottish single malt from the Highlands region, rich, fruity and spicy, Dalmore 18 represents the character of the distillery in its maximum expression.
The Dalmore 18 matures for 14 years in ex-bourbon barrels before passing through 30-year barrels of 500-litre Matusalem Sherry for four more years. A whisky with aromas of vanilla, dark chocolate and orange.
The story of The Dalmore goes back to 1263, when Colin of Kintail, head of the Mackenzie clan, saves King Alexander III of Scotland from a fully loaded deer, charging the deer with a spear while shouting "Cuidich 'n' Righ" which in Gaelic means "Save the King". As a reward, the king gave the lands of Eilean Donan, the motto "Luceo Non Uro" which translates to "I shine, I don't burn" and the right to use the twelve-pointed horned deer as the emblem of the clan.
The distillery was built years later, in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, who after 28 years decided to transfer the distillery to Andrew and Charles Mackenzie, who recovered the symbol of the clan, the deer with twelve-pointed antlers, and that each bottle of the distillery has carried since then.
The American oak used by the distillery comes from the Ozark Mountains in Kentucky, which provides the distillery with intense flavors of vanilla, spices, honey and fruit. A highly coveted wood, as each tree only comes out two barrels. The Sherry barrels used by the distillery come from the Gonzalez Byass winery, which was awarded the Best Winery in the World at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in 2010.
The whiskies produced by The Dalmore distillery are characterized by the extensive use of sherry barrels and by printing an intense character with fruity notes, raisins, sultanas, cherries, toffe, almonds and nuts.
