Wolfburn Northland

Made in the distillery located further north of the main island of Scotland, Wolfburn produces whiskeys of a unique character, with a defined personality and an extraordinary barrel system. The expression Northland 70cl 46% vol, bottled without coloring or cold filtering, is surprisingly soft and fragrant, with hints of fruit, malt and a slight memory of peat.

The Wolfburn Distillery

The distillery is located in Thurso, the northernmost city of the British mainland, with records dating back to the Viking era, when it was under the dominion of the Orcadian Norse and was an important gateway to Scandinavia and the Northern Islands The area is bordered to the north and east by a spectacular coastal landscape and hosts colonies of seabirds of international importance.

The history of the current distillery is relatively short when compared to the most historic distilleries in Scotland that can date from 1779. Everything and be based on a distillery with a respectable trajectory (1822 - 1877) , the current Wolfburn begins to take shape in May 2011, when one of the people responsible for the Wolfburn team went to locate the site of the old distillery in Thurso, Caithness. After 150 years of abandonment, what he found was a barely perceptible pile of stones, but one thing remained intact from the almost disappeared distillery; Water. The cold, transparent waters that fed the distillery kept flowing as they always had, and if the Wolf Burn was still there, the whiskey could be too.

Wolfburn, everything and being, as we have already said, young man, manages to print to his whiskeys great personality and complexity, being the most important factors to take into account the calm process of distillation and the strict use of barrels, always of the highest quality and almost always of first filling. They also use barrels that have previously aged malt whiskey from Islay, giving the whiskey a layer of complexity in the form of distant notes of smoked peat.

Nose: It is presented sweet, with fruity notes, with light citrus, cereals and a smoky memory of peat.

Mouth: Sweet, with notes of nuts, nutmeg, grape and spiced honey.

Finish: Medium-high and fresh persistence.

Northland is the flagship of one of the youngest distilleries in Scotland, which already has followers thanks to its characteristic personality. A whiskey that is presumed young when you analyze the distillery but in no case shows such characteristics during the sensory analysis, rather the opposite.
