Glenfarclas 18 Years 1L 43%vol. is a Highland single malt famous for its traditional style, powerful body, outstanding sherry notes and its natural color. The spirit of Independence represents the freedom and commitment of Glenfarclas to produce Highland single malt of superior quality, and it is that the distillery is managed by the same family since 1865.
The Glenfarclas distillery is located in Ballindalloch, in the Speyside region of Scotland. Glenfarclas, which in Gaelic means "Valley of the green grass", dates back to 1936 when a local farmer, Robert Hay, acquired the licence to distil, although there is evidence that illegal distillation was carried out from before.
In 1856, after Robert's death, the Grant family bought the farm and distillery, as at that time they were a family raising cattle and needed a farm halfway to their farm in Glenlivet and the market where they sold cattle near Elgin. In the sales contract, the Recherlich and Derrylane farms were acquired in addition to the distillery, for a value of 511.19 pounds
From that time until today, Glenfarclas has been run by the Grant family. "The spirit of Independence", the spirit of independence that Glenfarclas speaks of is the family's commitment to keep the business owned by the Grant clan and it is one of the few Scottish distilleries totally independent and run by a single family.
Six generations later, the distillery continues to bet on the powerful character and great influence of sherry barrels, in which almost exclusively mature their whiskies, a fact highly valued among connoisseurs.
