Lasanta, which in Gaelic means warm and passion, is an elegant and full-bodied whisky, with a deep and smooth texture and sweet aromas.
The name Glenmorangie comes from the Gaelic place name "Gleann Mòr na Sìth" or "Valley of Tranquillity", which is used to describe the area where the distillery is built, located near the Tarlogie springs in Ross-shire, in the Highlands region of Scotland.
The history of the distillery starts, of course, on the date of its foundation, founded in 1843 by William Matheson, when William finally obtains the licence to distil whisky in an old brewery, located near Tarlogie and buys two second-hand stills, previously used to distil gin.
In 1918 the distillery becomes the property of Macdonald and Muir, who ran the distillery in a terribly difficult environment, during the war, the prohibition and the great depression. Thanks to an excellent management in such complicated times, in 1977 Glenmorangie experiences great growth as a brand, a fact that requires the expansion of the distillery, in which it is decided to double the number of stills and expand the storage space.
The year 1990 marks a before and an after for Glenmorangie, since it manages to buy 650 acres around the water source of Tarlogie and doubles, again, the number of stills, this time up to eight.
Style: Single Malt.
Ageing: Aged 10 years in American white oak barrels of ex-bourbon and finished in Spanish sherry Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez.
Nose: Spicy notes mixed with raisins of chocolate, tofe caramel and waxy honey.
Mouth: Round and soft, with raisins in sherry, nutmeg, candies based on sugar and butter and spices.
Final: Long, with notes of spicy orange and hazelnuts with chocolate.
